371 cases filed against high-rises

April 2: The state fire and emergency services department has initiated prosecution procedures against owners of high-rise buildings that do not follow the prescribed fire safety measures. So far six owners of high-rise buildings have been convicted. However, the officials of the fire department said that the prosecution has not had the intended effect, as offenders are cleared of all charges when they pay a meagre amount of Rs 25,000 as penalty though the offenders don’t install any fire safety measure in their buildings later.
